bio

Imelda Suriato is the Creative Director for Squeaky Wheel Media, an award-winning interactive agency in New York City. Prior to Squeaky, she held positions as Creative Director and Lead Designer at various firms where she lead the creative efforts and usability studies for the interactive media for clients like Bloomingdale's, Ermengildo Zegna, Eastern Mountain Sports and Gore-Tex.

Imelda received her master’s degrees from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where she focused on combining fields of Visual Communications and Quantitative Research as means of understanding the visual form and information flow. After completing her theses and a brief teaching stint at her college, Universitas Indonesia, she switched gear and delved into what was then called the "New Media."

Uncovering the possibilities presented by the information technology field, it became clear to her that this field would provide enough intrigue to feed her curiosity and hunger for learning. More than a decade later, she still watches intently as that medium blossomed into its immersive form today and fills an important role in people’s life.

In her past life, she was a reporter for HAI Magazine in Jakarta, Indonesia. She also ran a design & photography studio under her name back home where she acted as a creative agent, dishing out branding strategy and creative direction.

She always likes to try different things, just to see if she can do it. Maybe because of her entrepreneur father, she likes to make and get things going. In 7th grade, she opened a T-shirt stand at a school fair with 2 friends where they designed and sold hundreds of limited-run T-shirts. In two days, she paid Mom back the $200 and pocketed $300 in profit. (Not bad for a kid.)

On Indonesia: She misses the fantastic food, the wonderful people and the sweet memories of things you do when you were growing up.
